We were called to serve people in Balkash, Kazakhstan. Learn how you can join the mission.
- Volunteer to speak with our students:Get to know our teenage students by setting apart 30 to 120 minutes a month. Chat with them by video call. Help them to improve their English while sharing your heart and experiences with them. Our students are high school students and young adults who are learning English and are at a conversational level.
Tell us how you can support our volunteer project. - Lead a session at the speaking club:We have a weekly English Speaking Club. You can lead one of the sessions. Choose a topic, prepare a short speech or presentation and engaging follow-up questions. We will set up a video conference where you will meet with our students, get to know them, and hear their answers. They will sharpen their speaking skills while you get to know our people and culture.
- Visit Balkhash, Kazakhstan for up to 3 months:While bigger cities in Kazakhstan present multiple opportunities for teenagers learning English to meet and speak with native speakers, in Balkhash it's hard to meet native English speakers. Come and spend time with us in Balkhash. Get to know our wonderful team of teachers, and our students. Spend time helping at the English camp in the summer or just show up for our daily classes.

Our family
This is our family. Sergey, my wife Anya and our three girls - Liz, Simma and Sophia. This picture was taken this summer while we were visiting the US. But we live in Balhash.
Balkhash... It's NOT a brand name of any sort NOR a famous city name for a small community in the center of Kazakhstan. For locals it is notorious as a place with NO future, forcing the youth to choose better places to live. But the worst part of it is degrading education. Institutions are plagued with studying unnecessary subjects, and procedures that literally kill creativity and focus on memorization of irrelevant facts.

It all began with a dream. Twelve years ago, I saw two powerful dreams: We were called to leave Almaty and start a language center in Balkhash that enables kids to pursue their aspirations. It is absolutely life-changing. Another exciting part that we didn't see initially is that right now, we have a team of about 15 like-minded local teachers.
